Meccha Chameleon: A Hide-and-Seek Game Where Observation Skills Are Key

There are plenty of games based on the hide-and-seek genre, but Meccha Chameleon takes a rather unusual approach. Players don't transform into objects to trick opponents. Instead, you have to create your own camouflage by picking colors directly from the map and applying them to your character. Just by looking at the surroundings long enough, you have a chance to survive until the end of the round.

That's also why many people find this game more interesting than typical prop hunt games. Each time you enter the map, you have to observe from the beginning again; you can't apply the same trick to every situation.

Starting a Match

When the match begins, players will be assigned to one of two teams.

If you play as the Hider, you need to run to find a suitable location before the preparation time ends. Then, open the paint mode, pick colors from the nearest surface, and paint your character completely. Once you feel your camouflage is secure, all you have to do is stand still and hope the seeker passes by without noticing.

Conversely, the Seeker must inspect each area on the map. This sounds simple, but it's actually quite time-consuming because many players are very skilled at camouflage. Even a small mismatch can be a sign of an opponent.

Basic Controls

During gameplay, you will often use the following keys:

  • W, A, S, D: Move.
  • F: Activate paint mode.
  • Left mouse: Select colors and patterns from the environment.
  • Middle mouse: Change camera angle.
  • R: Change character pose.
  • 3: Activate observation assistance mode while playing Seeker.
  • T: Chat with other players.

Some helpful tips

Instead of standing in the middle of an open space, try finding walls with many patterns or areas containing many objects. These places help to better conceal color discrepancies.

After coloring, don't forget to rotate the camera to check yourself. Some angles look very natural, but even a slight change in direction will reveal the camouflage.

For Seekers, don't just look straight ahead. High angles, wall edges, or less noticeable locations are often where Hiders choose to hide.

In conclusion

Meccha Chameleon offers a fresh experience by relying on self-camouflage rather than transforming into objects. New players can get used to it in just a few minutes, while more experienced players will gradually discover many creative hiding methods. If you like multiplayer games with strategic elements and not too much competition, this is a very worthwhile choice.
